Dean and Charlotte

In the week beginning 13th November, Charlotte is delighted to say that she wrote cheques to the sum of £200,000 to the Charities that Give Away are supporting. “It was a great moment to actually be doing what I set out to do” said Charlotte.

“When you are in the middle of building 3 houses, the days look long and endless and sometimes it was almost impossible to keep a grip on the real reason for the project, but being able to actually make a difference now, puts all that hard work in perspective. I find it difficult to believe it all myself!

“I met Amelia with her mother a few days ago and she is just one of 4 children who live in London, who will benefit from our project through Whizz Kidz who are organising a new motorised wheelchair for her.”

“Kit came to our party and he is a regular visitor at Small Steps in Putney. This delightful pre-school for children with special needs relies on donated funds to provide support, therapy and play for children and their parents.

Give it Away is also supporting a youth Charity in Wandsworth called Skilltrain and with additional funds a lot more young people like Dean can look forward to a better and more positive future through one to one mentoring and educational support.

“The Give Away” has begun!

With the sale of Dolly’s House, Charlotte was able to start the real reason behind the Give it Away project – providing much needed support for the Charities she is working with, who rely on donated funds. In the week of 13th November, £200,000 was distributed amongst them, enabling money to be spent on wheelchairs, alternative support therapies in a teenage oncology unit through Yes 2 Life, income support to maintain and increase the sessions available at Small Steps pre-school, money to invest in teenage support activities be it counselling, residential care, education or mentors and money to help fund a sports centre for children who are blind or partially sighted, in Tooting. Shooting Stars Hospice for Children will also be able to pay for something on their “wish” list.

Charlotte said: “to go from this: will we ever finish!!?

Give It Away

to this:

Give It Away

makes me forget all the bad times - my wish for Christmas is just to sell two more houses!!”

Give It AwaySkilltrain’s Lucy Gardiner, invited Charlotte to lunch and was delighted to receive a cheque which will make a huge difference to the lives of the young people who are mentored by this small but effective Charity based in Wandsworth.

We Have A Winner
Give It Away
This is the view of the House as you arrive!
Give It Away
The draw on the Grand Staircase at Clivedon

At the beginning of the Give it Away project we entered all our suppliers in a prize draw for dinner bed and breakfast at Clivedon House Hotel in Taplow, Buckinghamshire.

Tim Pettifer the General Manager wanted to help the project and this seemed to be a good way of thanking everyone who gave their time or discounts to us and we accepted his generous offer.

Now that three houses are completed, Charlotte visited Clivedon House and she and Tim Pettifer drew a name out of the Champagne bucket!

The winner is: MR STEVE JACKSON, General Manager, from Burge and Gunson who supplied all the bathroom fixtures and fittings and spent many hours helping this novice “developer” put together some spectacular suites.

We all hope that he will enjoy his night is this fabulous hotel Congratulations Steve!

We had a party!

Give It AwayOn Friday 29th September, Give it Away hosted a part at No 12 Akehurst Street for everyone involved in the project.

We had suppliers, builders, painters, decorators, tillers, the press, estate agents, IT experts, accountants, lawyers and of course all the charities!

Lizzy, am Ambassador for Whizz-Kidz was there, Kit and Jack came with their Mummys from Small Steps, Dean came with Lucy from Skilltrain and Shaftesbury and Arethusa brought 2 guests with them.

We had wonderful food thanks to the Outback Restaurant from Wandsworth who barbequed for us, Al Forno who gave us some yummy pizzas, and Waitrose who helped with party food. The most spectacular cake was presented to us from Savoir Design in Wandsworth – it was almost too good to cut!! We had a lovely afternoon with friends and supporters and Charlotte had the chance to thank everyone for their generous and continued support.

2c Dryburgh Mews, SW15 - affectionately known as "Dolly's House"!

Give It Away

HAS BEEN SOLD!

As a direct result of the article on Sunday 20th August, (see Press on home page) Dolly's House has new owners and a new name.  The house has been finished in October, handed over to her new owners and is re-named "The Coach House."  It was a wonderful moment for the Give it Away team!

The house looks as though it has always been there - bijou, chic and well designed inside, Dolly's House offers 1800 square feet of attractively laid out rooms and a private walled garden. The space we have created for a small urban chic home is amazing! The basement area has been a wonderful addition to the house and the interior is stylish without being minimalist.

Charlotte Visits Whizz-Kidz

Whizz KidsWhizz-Kidz is a nationwide charity who supply motorised, custom built chairs and aids for children and teenagers with mobility problems. Charlotte visited the London offices and met Josh who has been with Whizz-Kidz so long he couldn't remember his initial contact with them! Now at 21, he is enjoying a tear's work experience at their headquarters before he plans to go to university to study journalism. He has offered to "test drive" our houses for wheelchair access, so look out for those pictures!

He also said that if Give It Away could fund some much needed equipment for children on the waiting list, we would be "giving them back their independence and creating a new life for them". We intend to do just that.
