IMG_0042Give it Away, for the first time has made a significant donation to an adult age group.

Charlotte met Back Up Trust in Wandsworth this year and was impressed and touched by the work they do in supporting adults with spinal cord injury who suddenly find themselves later in life, unable to walk and dependant on a wheelchair. A simple accident at home, a road traffic crash, a sporting incident – and suddenly your world changes.

The donation of £55,000 will be used for the over 50’s – a growing sector of active people who can feel helpless and trapped when faced with their life in a wheelchair.  Back Up support and mentor them and their families both emotionally and practically.

IMG_0034On receiving the pink envelope a visibly moved Sean McCallion, recalled the words of one recent man who having participated in one of Back Up’s programmes  said:  I felt isolated and embarrassed to go out and I had no confidence and felt insecure when using my wheelchair. The course gave me the confidence to use my chair anywhere. Prior to the course  I couldn’t  make it 300 yards to TESCO. On the course I found myself on top of Edinburgh Castle – I was king of the Castle.!  Thank you so much for giving me my life back!”

After presenting the cheque, Charlotte and Sean rang the company bell I celebration!
